November 5, 2011
PRIME Minister Julia, Gillard visited Hofmann Engineering in Bassendean last week to announce government support for the Western Australian mining industry to promote local jobs.
Taking time out from her duties at CHOGM, Ms Gillard said Hofmann Engineering had paved the way for local businesses to deliver on a local, national and international scale.
"I first heard about the story of this business at the Future Jobs Forum and this is one of many Australian manufacturing success stories," Ms Gillard said.
"This is a business involving eight Hofmann family members across three generations.
"They have built a manufacturing business that today employs 600 Australians, that is exporting to around 20 countries overseas, that is working for our mining industry, our defence industries and our clean energy future."
"It's a great story of innovation and it's a story of investing in people, because this is a business that drives itself too training apprentices and retaining its staff.
Hofmann Engineering have been operating since 1969 and provide replacement parts for mining equipment and Hofmann Engineering executive director John Hofmann said to have the Prime Minister visit their facilities was incredible.
"We were touched and honoured by her presence and I think the staff were tickled pink by the visit," Mr Hofmann said. "The work we do here is essential to the milting industry and it is great to have the support of the Prime Minister."
